CALVIN KLEIN COLLECTION S/S 13

The crux of Calvin Klein Collection lies with its interpretation of minimalism. With the way the word “minimalist” is bandied around lately, it is easy to forget that only a few designers truly understand the power of simplicity and deftly execute it. Francisco Costa has always been a leader amongst that elite group of artists and his latest collection for Calvin is a study on how to do minimalism right. Working with a restricted palate and clear focus, Costa put forth a sexy and refined look for Spring that was irresistible.

Call it the Lara Stone influence; there was something decidedly sensual about Costa’s offerings this season. Silk corsets and matte satin bustiers displayed an eroticism previously unseen on the Calvin collection runway, while abstract lace and mesh touches showcased skin the most tasteful of ways. There was a sculptural quality to certain looks, with gold frames built into dresses adding structure and a touch of extravagance. This was the Calvin take on seductiveness and it was pitch perfect: modern, fluid and completely in line with the mood of the season. We’ll be counting the days until we see these looks on the back of Ms. Stone, or perhaps on one of the chic starlets who filled the Calvin Klein Collection front row.
